Specialization Points

What are Specialization Points and Why are they Important?

Specialization points are extremely important in Rise of Empires. They are gained in each season of Reign of Chaos (and later Eden), and last for the life of the account (meaning they are NOT reset each season, they persist). Specialization points can help you process resources faster, take high level tiles faster, gain honor faster (thus getting additional specialization points faster), as well as provide miliatary buffs. Long story short, the more specialization points you have, the more effective you can be at RoC and Eden.

Because specialization points are so important, it is critical to plan ahead in RoC and Eden to make sure you are gaining as many specialization points as possible each season. To do this, you need to keep in mind how you spend your specialization point resets, and if you will be particpating in any of the paid offers in-game which help in boosting you honor (and thus specialization points). Note that you are not required to spend money, however the developers have made it much easier for those who spend money to gain specialization points in the game.

Specialization Trees

Each specialization tree is described in detail. For a list of known / recommended combitions of how to spend your specialization points, see:

Blue Specialization Tree: Construction

Lord of Pondtail Video: Specialization Part 1 - Construction (Blue)

The blue tree has 4 branches. Blue is one of the trees you will likely always have points in during the season, though you may switch your points from branch to branch throughout the season.

Blue-Left: Processing Materials

The Blue-Left tree is focused around processing materials at your Frontline Workshops. The first node in the tree provides both a boost to processing speed, and the maximum processing quantity for each of your material processing slots. After this first node, you have a choice between processing more materials at once, or improving processing speed. For most active players you want to focus on processing speed. You will process more materials if you are able to login throughout the day for a minute to claim materials and start processing another batch. If you are not able to do that, then it may make sense for you to focus on processing more materials at once. This choice is going to depend on how often you are able to login.

The main feature of the Blue-Left tree is unlocking additional Processing Queues. The more Queues you have, the more materials you can process at once. Typically if you will only need two or three queues to be able to process all the materials you are collecting in a day.

TIP:
If you are purchasing the Imperial Investment Package every week during the season, then you will get an extra processing queue, as well increased processing speed. This may be enough for you to not need to invest in the Blue-Left tree. Consider this before investing points in this tree.

Blue-Right: Increased Loyalty

The Blue-Right tree is focused around pushing tile levels. The benefits in this tree include increasing loyalty for every Coalition Basecamp you have, decreasing troop healing time, and decreasing troop healing cost. If you are pushing poisoned tiles, then you will be losing lots of troops, which is why the troop healing bonuses are useful in this tree.

With 4 coalition basecamps, you can get the following loyalty bonuses:

  • 14 Specialization Points: 300 Loytalty

  • 25 Specialization Points: 600 Loyalty

  • 36 Specialization Points: 900 Loyalty

  • 47 Specialization Points: 1200 Loyalty

TIP:
Towards the end of the season, you may be able to take level 16 tiles with only 36, or 25 specialization points instead of the full 47 -- depending on the level of your Coalition Basecamps. Keep a close eye on your total loyalty when re-specing.

Blue-Up: Battle Abilities

The Blue-Up tree is generally not used. Generally speaking, there are better places to put your points that in this tree. This tree focuses on increasing your demolition power, Instant Recall of troops during ROC, and Building Defense (active ability to make one of your buildings invulnerable for a period of time).

Active Abilities:

  1. Seige Hammer: After usage, on the next attack, Deal 1~5x random durability damage, 8 Hour cool-down. (1~10x when maxed).

  2. Demolition: After usage, Demolition power +10, Lasts 10 minutes, 8 Hour cool-down. (+50 demolition power when maxed).

  3. Truce Protection: Make 1 Honor Structure enter the protection status, Lasting 10 minutes, 8 Hour Cool-down. (Lasts 15 minutes when maxed.)

  4. Instant Recall: After Reign of Chaos battles, spend 1000 gems to recall troops instantly. (Maximum Level: 800 gems to recall troops instantly)

Green Specialization Tree: Resources

Lord of Pondtail: Specialization Part 2 - Resources (Green)

The green tree has 3 branches. If used correctly, the abilities and bonuses in the Green tree are those that help you boost your specialization level, increasing your total number of specialization points.

Green-Left: Buildings

The Green-Left tree is focused on increasing honor from building or upgrading Honor Structures. This is the tree that is going to give you LOADS of points throughout the season. The central line is likely the first line you want to go down when using this specialization. This line will give you a bonus of +9% honor for each node completed. If you finish this line, and both branches to the left and right at the end of the tree you can gain a total of +90% Honor from building and upgrading Honor Structures. When combined with both the Civil Engineering skill and an Honor Boost ticket, upgrading Workshops, Guardian Fortresses, and Assault Fortresses can give you Millions of Honor per upgrade at the higher levels.

Active Abilities:

  1. Civil Engineering: After usage, Construction Honor gains increased by 50% for 2 hours, 8 Hour Cooldown. (Max: 100% bonus for 2 Hours).

  2. Honor Award: Gain a large amount of honor instantly, higher the total structure level, more Honor will be gained. Can be used once every day. (Max: more honor)

TIP for Spenders:
If you purchase the Imperial Investment package each week, you will get a free respec every week. If you use this with a Basic Specialization Reset, you can respec to Green-Left to upgrade buildings up to once per week, then spec back to your prior spec for the remainder of the week.

Green-Right: Tile Bonuses

The Green-Right tree gives bonuses to taking tiles. The center path and branches around the circle give bonuses to honor when taking tiles. If you have enough points to pick up all of these nodes, you can pick up +90% to honor gains from taking tiles. You can also pick up marching bonuses toward tiles and command structures. These skills might be useful if you have lots of spec points and are taking part in lots of battles, however for most people, these should not be a priority.

Active Abilities

  1. Land Reclamation: Exploite territories, 15% production of maximum 7 territories within 3km range. (Max: 12 territories).

  2. Land Development (1): Territories lower than Lv 5 can gain 1 level over time (cannot exceeed the highest level of territory owned). (Max: up to Lvl 12 territories)

  3. Land Development (2): Territories lower than Lv 13 can gain 1 level over time (cannot exceeed the highest level of territory owned). (Max: up to Lvl 16 territories)

Warning ⚠️
Even though there is no description in the skill saying this, you cannot fully upgrade the second Land Development skill until you are at Specialization Level 60. This means you cannot upgrade tiles to level 16 with Land Development until you have 60 spec points -- even though technically you do not need 60 to reach that point in the specialization tree...

Green-Up: Hero Experience & Resources

The Green-Up tree's central branch provides bonuses to hero experience in territory battles. If you pick up all of the experience boosting nodes, you can gain a total of +90% hero experience from territory battles. The right and left branches provide up to +18% increased resources from Rusted Ingots and Crooked Lumber, or Terrible Hardtack and Chipped Marble. Placing extra points here can be a great boost to further increase your production of materials.

Active Abilities

  1. Training: Train on territories (no losses), Increase Hero Exp. Each training costs: 10 Minutes (Max: Each training costs: 5 minutes)

  2. Resource Cellar: After the castle is successfully seiged, 100% of the resources will be protected from being plundered, lasts 20 mins. 24 hour cooldown. (Max: lasts 60 minutes).

Red Specialization Tree: Combat

Lord of Pondtail: Specialization Part 3 - Combat (Red)

The red tree has 3 branches. If you have LOTS of specialization points, the Red tree might be good for you. The alliance will likely need a few people specialized in Red for certain events in Eden, but we will learn more about that later. For now, Red is where you should place your points between seasons. Both Blue and Green have bonuses specific to Honor Structures or gaining Honor through tiling, which you cannot do between seasons, however you can still get the bonuses from Red between seasons.

I'm too lazy to write up all the Red tree's right now 😂 -- so watch Lord of Pondtail's video.

Specialization Points Between Seasons

Lord of Pondtail: How to Use Your Spec Points Between RoC Seasons

Between seasons, both blue and green are not useful. In green, there is an honor boost that can be used daily. This does still work, but you only gain 10K points per day when you have no honor structures. Overall, your best bet is to respec to Red between seasons for the combat bonuses.
